The Amazon Fire HD7 has just gone on sale. On the Amazon homepage, they say that this is for a limited time.
However, we should not buy items just because they are on sale. We should buy them only if they’re a good deal AND a great product. So, let’s take a look at the HD7 and see if we find both a good deal and a great product.
The Fire HD7 Hardware Specifications
The Amazon Fire HD7 packs a significant punch for it’s $119 price tag. For us, two things really stand out: the video and the speed.
The Amazon Fire HD7 has amazing video with it’s high-definition screen, coming in at a resolution of 1280×800. Why is the screen so important? Well, many Fire users embrace the Amazon Prime membership and spend a large portion of their time watching videos from Amazon Prime (sign up for a free month here). Thus, the quality of the screen output is very important and the Amazon HD7 delivers.
Secondly, the Amazon Fire HD7 tablet aces our speed tests. After all, if we’re watching video, it does not matter how great the screen is if the tablet can’t render the video fast enough or load websites quickly. How does the Fire HD operate at such high speed? It has to do with the quad-core processor which can handle everything that you can throw at it.
Aside from these two quality measurements, this device has things that previous Fire’s did not such as extra ports and back and front facing cameras (critical especially if you’re a Skype user–this makes a good case to upgrade older Fire tablets). You will also love the enhanced audio on this Fire and will not be left wanting for more as the Dolby surround sound is delivered in crisp, HD, stereo at volumes 1.5x louder than competitors.
Oh, and one other great little hardware feature: The Amazon Fire HD 7 comes in an abundant choice of colors!
The Amazon Fire HD7 Experience
At The Christmas Store Online, we’re less interested in technical specifications than we are with the user experience.
What happens when you open the box? Is the this a product that you will enjoy?
The answer to that question is a fairly universal “yes”. In fact, the Amazon Fire Tablets have been consistently ranked with the highest customer satisfaction in the industry. If you have read at all about Jeff Bezos, the owner of Amazon, he has no interest in putting out sub-par products. The consistently high customer satisfaction with this Amazon line of tablets is another testament to that.
A great customer experience often depends on who the customer is: Is it a demanding, experienced tablet user or a new tablet user who loves to watch movies, play games, read books, and take pictures? For the latter, the Amazon HD 7 Fire tablet is perfect. For the former, the experienced tablet user, we’ll speak more in the next section as we compare the Fire HD7 with Android and iPad tablets.
This newer tablet user, or the tablet user who just likes to do these fun things, will be content upon the first powering up of the HD7. The setup of the HD7 is a snap and the intuitive interface allows you to get going right away. You’ll be taking pictures, reading books, and watching movies in no time. This is ideal usage for the HD Fire user and you will love it.
Now, let’s take a look at the more experienced tablet user and those who use other platforms such as Android and the Apple iPad.
The Amazon HD7 Fire: Comparisons with iPad and Android Tablets
In looking at the various reviews of some other HD7 Fire users, I was very surprised to find a review entitled: “Finally, a tablet that I can leave my iPad behind for.”
Why is this? Well, iPad users get downright religious with their allegiance to Apple so it was a great surprise to find an Apple devotee who recommends switching.
Currently, at this $119 price, Amazon beats the competition hardware-wise. But, when making your decision, you need to ask yourself two questions: (1) Am I willing to embrace the Amazon ecosystem of books and movies? and (2) Am I primarily buying this device for entertainment purposes?
If the answer to those two questions is “yes”, the Amazon HD7 is a no-brainer.
However, if you are currently tied to the Apple or Android ecosystem (meaning that you get your entertainment from iTunes or Google Play), then you may want to think twice. Both Apple and Android offer ways for you to read books, watch movies, and play games. However, Amazon makes it very easy to do as well so, if you do switch to the Amazon platform, you’ll find it very easy.
The other concern with iPad iOS and Android users is the “App” availability. There are simply more things that you can do with iOS and Android than you can with the Amazon App store. However, this is changing as Amazon Apps are growing in number by leaps and bounds.
The Conclusion: Should You Buy An Amazon HD7 Tablet
I will make this very easy for you.
If you are an experienced tablet user and/or a previous iPad/Android tablet user, you will want to think twice before you make this purchase.
If you are a new tablet user and/or you will using the HD7 tablet primarily for entertainment purposes, this is a must buy…especially at $119.

I purchased this Kindle for my grandma, because I wanted a simple way to video chat with her…In addition to how easy it was to get this setup (which I walked her through over the phone), she has fallen in love with the games she now has access to. If my 80 year old grandma can figure this out, then I think most people will find it pretty simple to use. Willy

Since I have not upgraded in 2 years I thought I would get a new one with a larger memory and a faster CPU and a higher resolution display. There are many improvements beyond even those features.I have to tell you that overall I am impressed with this new one. JJCEO

I’m writing this review with the benefit of being an experienced Kindle Fire user vs. someone brand new to the Kindle family. In summary, for $139 you are getting a good deal on a tablet computer – especially if you compare it to the $500 or more you can spend on a Wi-Fi version of the iPad.Michael Gallagher

The current $119 price tag cannot be beat for a tablet with this much horsepower. As Amazon says that this is a “limited time offer”, be sure to jump on it soon.
