Mixing Meningitis: 14,000 Potential Exposures

The first meningitis lawsuit has been filed against the New England Compounding Center, the manufacturer of the contaminated steroid that has caused 14 deaths, 185 serious ailments, and could potentially afflict the more the 14,000 people who have received the contaminated steroid shot.

The First Meningitis Lawsuit:  More to Follow!

The first meningitis lawsuit has been filed by a woman in Minnesota named Barbe Pura who received the contaminated steroid.  The lawsuit names New England Compounding Center, the company that produced the tainted steroid shots.

Barbe Pura took the steroid injection for neck pain and is currently uncertain of her status.

Like Pura, many patients take this steroid to alieve neck and back pain.  While there are already 14 confirmed deaths, and more than 180 people suffering from the tainted shot, the number of people afflicted could escalate dramatically.  There are currently 14,000 people who have received these pain-relieving steroid shots who may be at risk of contracting meningitis.

The company named in the lawsuit, New England Compounding Center, distributed their contaminated vials to more than 75 hospitals and clinics within 23 states.   The company has suspended operations and recalled more than 17 thousand doses of the steroid.

This may just be the tip of the iceberg as meningitis is known to remain dormant for quite some time.    Surely, this lawsuit will be the first of many as more and more people fall prey to these contaminated doses.
