There are many different ways to wake up. You can’t control them; they just are.
I liked the way I woke today. Normally, I wouldn’t have liked it because I woke up too early. When you wake up too early, it often means that you did not get enough sleep. Who wants to start a new day without enough sleep the night before?
Catching up on the upcoming weekend in sports on ESPN.com, I just came across a story entitled Book: Williams’ head abused at facility.
This initially may not strike you as odd if you do not know the story.
Are you feeling lucky? There’s a lottery going on right now and you could run out and buy a ticket.
Do you know that today, there are hundreds of people who are going to visit google or other search engines and type in the following: “What are the most lucky mega numbers played?” You might be one of them.
But you might not want to win the lottery today. This sounds silly I know (who would not delight in winning $3,000,000 today?). But experts say that “excessive wealth, particularly for people unaccustomed to it, such as lottery winners, can actually cause unhappiness.” In fact, over 1/3 of lottery winners end up declaring bankruptcy.
Yesterday, I did not go to church because I was watching the PGA Golf tournament. One of the ten commandments says:
I am the LORD your God: you shall not have strange Gods before me!
Was I putting golf before God? Was golf my strange God?
When it comes to July 4th celebrations, the place to be is Hermosa Beach, California.

Last night, I sat down to watch the evening news when I heard: Michael Jackson is dead.
My first reaction was utter disbelief–he’s too young to be dead! We received no clues, no warnings, no serious ill-health reports. For a moment, I thought they must have the report wrong. How could Michael Jackson be dead?
My uncle just came by for a visit. My uncle is a priest, a Jesuit priest no less. If you want to get technical, they’re super-priests.
My uncle has like 5 masters degrees. Jesuits are uber-educated as they have to study for like 13 years before becoming full-fledged Jesuits. It’s great-you to get to keep going to school well beyond when you’re suppose to stop going to school and get a job. Your only trade-off for this? A lifetime vow of poverty and celibacy.
Are you a know-it-all? If so, I have one piece of information that you do not know: You annoy everybody!

This morning I was checking out the latest Top Rap Songs and came across a rap video performed on…Southwest Airlines?
How great is Southwest Airlines for allowing their employees to exercise creativity like this?
Let’s see…small seats, old airplanes, no assigned seating…but I always enjoy flying Southwest because of things like this. They just do things right.
Clearly the passengers loved this too as they joined in the beat and gave a big round of applause. Enjoy the Southwest Rap Song!

Over three million people have viewed this video on You Tube of Tricia Walsh Smith, the present and future ex-spouse of Philip Smith, a theatre executive worth about sixty million dollars.
In the video, she lambastes her husband for many things: that he is not giving her what she deserves, his sexual ineptitude, his infidelities…basically, his entire character.
This is just not fair for one obvious reason: she is not a first wife!
I recently read about Dr. Phil and Robin McGraw Divorce Rumors. I never thought Dr. Phil would make my Top Ten 10 Fraudulent self-help gurus list, but, if this news is true, he certainly might.
I cannot say I was delighted with this news (who wants to wish ill on someone?) but it won’t disrupt my day.
Dr. Phil has caused me many a headache!
I walked through the city the other day on streets I have walked thousands of times. I have never stepped in a pothole or unintentionally bumped into anybody. But, I realized, I had seen so little because I had failed to look up.
Look up.
It’s something that you infrequently do; nobody does.
We all have to look straight ahead. This is a given. Imagine if you did not look straight ahead when you were performing life’s most basic tasks…like driving. TV, something all of us do all the time, would certainly be less enjoyable if we did not look straight ahead-it would be like radio!
Remember the days when radio ruled? You probably do not because you were not alive. Those people who would remember the radio days are not reading this because they are not currently on the Internet…they are listening to the radio.
M. Scott Peck leads my list of the top fraudulet self-help gurus. This may come as a surprise to many of his devotees but let’s at least discuss the possibility.
I never liked him because the first line of his famous book, The Road Less Traveled, says Life is Difficult.
My mom and her friends all read this book. My mom used to constantly remind me that yes, Richard, Life Is Difficult. This got me depressed. And my mom’s friends too. Hence, the future success of Prozac Nation.
