A Rich Idea

Sex and Vanity by Kevin Kwan: A Richard Cummings Book Review

I’m easily manipulable – I chose to read the book Sex and Vanity simply for the salacious title AND because I heard the same author had also written the book Crazy Rich Asians, a movie [not book] that I enjoyed.

Why not? What the h*ll? Let’s go for it!

Sex and Vanity by Kevin Kwan — the Amazon page for the book promises the following:

When one allows themself to be deluded by the title of a book, one should not be so deluded when the book disappoints.

I am one.

Was it “Kevin Kwan’s … most decadent yet”? I’ve never read a Kevin Kwan book so it’s unfair to make that judgement.

However, if this book is his “most decadent yet”, I fear his other works may be screaming for some salacious revisions.

The most creative and fun thing that happened in this book was that a drone (guided by young boys having fun) happens upon a guy going down on a girl.

The rest of Sex and Vanity is kind-of-fun, predictable pop-fluffiness that worked well for Crazy Rich Asians in the theatre but, in written form, leaves you chiding yourself for being so easily manipulated by a book’s title.
