Short, But Funny, Southern Best Man Speech

What is it about a Southern accent that makes stories even better?  In the video below, we see a short, but very funny, best man speech.

The best man, with a Southern accent and demeanor to the core, begins his best man speech by saying, “Tradition would dictate that this would be opportunity to bring out embarrassing stories about the groom, but I am not going to do that.  For example, I will not tell the story about…”

Best Man Speech: Overcoming Anxiety

When someone is asked to be the best man in a wedding, the initial feelings of your friend getting married and you being such a big part of it are often quickly thawed by one sobering thought:  I have to give the best man speech.

To many people unaccustomed to giving a speech, much less a best man speech, the idea of speaking in front of many people brings great fear and trepidation.  I am reminded of the Seinfeld joke in which he quipped:

A word of caution about your best man speech:  Imitate But Do Not Duplicate.

Upon seeing the video below, I recall a wedding I attended this summer.  The Best Man at this wedding did the EXACT SAME SPEECH as you see below.  Of course, he changed the names and locations but he scarcely changed a word.

Two Movie Recommendations: Tape/Lucía y el sexo

Sometimes you should listen to your movie store guy.

I know…many of you go to blockbuster and your movie store guy is a tweaked out teenager who would rather be skateboarding.  Others of you never see your movie store guy because he is now a computer screen that reads Netflix.

Californication Season II Premiere: The Return of Hank Moody

californication season ii premiere reviewAll television shows make you some sort of promise.

With the first season of Californication, Showtime promised us a show about a struggling writer who beds many women and generally leads an intemperate life all in an effort to escape his true heart, which is with Karen, the mother of his daughter.

As I wrote in Californication: Showtime’s Raison d’etre, this was one hell of a first season, and the only reason that you need to get a subscription to Showtime.

Dave Matthews and Friends: Let’s Cruise Again

When I heard the news a few weeks ago about the untimely death of LeRoi Moore, it shocked and saddened me.  LeRoi is a founding member of The Dave Matthews Band.  I did not know him personally but, personally, he has given me so much joy.

Really, what more can one accomplish in life?  LeRoi and the DMB Band have given this joy to hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of people.  It is fair to say that the people in the picture above, all enjoying the Dave Matthews and Friends cruise, would never have had that moment were not for LeRoi Moore, founding member of the Dave Matthews band.Read More

Tom Cruise, Scientology, and South Park

I try to edify myself in every possible way.  Today’s efforts include watching “30 Celebrity Feuds” on E.

The Feud I just watched involved the Tom Cruise “Trapped In The Closet” episode of South Park (watch below).  The episode pokes fun at Scientology, Scientologists, and Tom Cruise’s gaiety.  Tom Cruise apparently threatened Paramount pictures, who own South Park, saying that he would not promote the new Mission Impossible movie if Paramount allowed re-runs of this South Park episode.

Californication: Showtime’s Raison d’etre

david duchovny on californicationIf you think HBO is the sole proprietor for outstanding, unique, irreverent, edgy material, you haven’t tuned into Californication on Showtime.

David Duchovny plays Hank Moody, a once-inspired writer who currently can’t find his voice.  His life, in shambles after the separation from the mother of his only child who he is still madly in love with, is an enjoyably tragic ride of too much and too many:  too many women and too much booze.
