Forma parte de la naturaleza humana juzgar a los demás con mucha severidad y, cuando el viento sopla contra nuestros anhelos, encontrar siempre una disculpa por el mal que hemos hecho o renegar contra el prójimo por nuestras faltas. La historia que sigue ilustra lo que quiero decir.
Cierto mensajero fue enviado en misión urgente a una ciudad distante. Ensillo su caballo y partió a todo galope. Después de ver pasar varias posadas, donde siempre alimentaban los animales, el caballo pensó: “Ya no paramos a comer en establos y eso significa que ya no me tratan como un caballo, sino como un ser humano. Como todos los hombres, creo que comeré en la próxima gran ciudad.”
Pero pasaban las ciudades grandes, una tras otra, y su jinete proseguía el viaje. Entonces el caballo empezó a pensar: “Tal vez yo no me haya transformado en un ser humano, sino en un ángel, pues los ángeles jamás necesitan comida.”
Por fin llegaron a su destino y el animal fue conducido al establo, donde devoró el heno que en él había, con apetito voraz
“¿Por qué creer que las cosas cambian, si no siguen el ritmo de siempre? –decía para sus adentros–. No soy homre ni ángel, sino sólo un caballo con hambre.”
